The Sisters of No Mercy

Long ago, the nascent Sea Kittens, fresh from the redd, observed a small number of opponents trying to issue “red light” commands to batters in certain pitch counts- that is, “don’t swing the bat, make the pitcher throw a strike,” with the underlying pretext being “we/ you’re better off trying to walk than trying to get a hit.”  Often- always- the batter in question was a woman.  The Sea Kittens adopted a counter-measure as one

On this Day: June 30, 2010

On this date 11 years ago Sea Kittens notched its first walkoff win in team history, a dramatic and delightful 15-14 victory over Floyd & Donna’s Packer Inn. The Cats used 14 players in the game, hit three triples, blew a 13-7 lead, and won it when Boom Boom Magyera foiled an intentional walk and poked the game-winning hit to right field with two out in the bottom of the 5th. All four of the original Cats who are still with the team- O’Brien, Hennessy, Magyera, and Sunshine Curtis- were there that mild and memorable summer eve.

One-hundred Days of Summer

Sea Kittens commemorate one-hundredth Summer League gathering Over the course of the past ten years, merry ladies and gentlemen have gathered on the manicured lawns of Olbrich Park on Wednesday evenings for the occasion of “Sea Kittens Slow-pitch Softball.”  One-hundred summer nights have so been whiled away by grown men and women dressed gaily alike, swatting a ball with a stick and chasing it about, sometimes even rolling, rolling, rolling in the grass and dirt.
