Falling Kittens Look to Land Upright

Harmony Sea Kittens (3-3) have played but two games since its June 5 walk-off debacle against Bat Intentions.  Whether the limited action has been detrimental or a merciful reprieve is debatable, as the squad has ventured towards territory it hasn’t visited since the grisly days of The Schneid. The squad looks to end its recent skid tonight against the team that started it in a 7:30 rematch with Bat Intentions (1-5).

Sea Kittens have lost three consecutive games for the first time since opening the 2015 Fall season 0-3; the team hasn’t lost four in a row since the end of its 15-game losing streak in 2013-14.  The most recent loss- a 23-7 paddling at the hands of Stephen Grutzik’s Pitches B Trippin (3-3) squad, was the worst beating the Cats have taken since May 14, 2014 and was the seventh-worst loss in Sea Kittens 160-game history.

Sea Kittens jumped to 3-0 leads in each of the recent contests- a traditional recipe for success- but found sustained hitting success elusive and struggled mightily on the run-prevention side of things in both games.

The June 26 matchup with Monona Mashers (2-4) titled back-and-forth and featured four lead changes, but Sea Kittens were held scoreless in the 6th and 7th innings while Mashers posted a run in each of those frames to secure an 8-7 come-from-behind victory.

There was similar drama in the July 10 contest against Pitches B Trippin- for two innings.  Sea Kittens and PBT each posted 3 runs in both the first and second innings as the game shaped up to be a wild offensive battle.  But harmony went quietly in the 3rd and 4th innings while PBT continued tallying 3-spots, and then salted the game away with a six-run fifth that featured a Grutzik grand slam.
