Off-season Mewsings 18.1

cropped-SK-onlyWe’ve flipped the calendar, and now summer softball is only 120 days away! First, some sad news. The Original Sea Kitten Bat has passed to the bat rack in the sky. A 26 oz Demarini Doublewall purchased for team use prior to20180114_144404-11637037772.jpg the inaugural 2010 season, it was the team’s full – time bat from 2010 through the end of the 2012 season.  It was stick that brought home the Cats’ only summer title, to date. If you played during that era, more than likely you swatted your first SK hit with this bat. Recently the bat had been in service as for cold – weather batting practice, and in early December it cracked its last hit, fittingly on Olbrich 1, where it debuted 7.5 years ago. Fare thee well, trusty bat!
“I’d like to give the bat a proper farewell, but don’t know her name.  Why don’t we name our bats?”    –MamaCat O’Brien
In happy news, MSCR has officially announced a return to a full 10-game season for summer 2018!
From MSCR Adult Sports Director Diana Miller: Thanks for getting in touch Joe. We are definitely planning on the 10 week season. I think it will make many people happy!
Dave & Joe (with Erin as special consultant) are getting started on designing Sea Kittens caps! Flu & other illnesses have delayed progress, but some samples and ideas have been gathered. They are going to be awesome. Stay tuned for your chance to assist the process!  If there is sufficient demand, we might also order shirts this year. Dan’s is grungy.   Look for more Sea Kitten Mewsings in the weeks to come, and if a miracle of time happens, a revamped website!
