23 Boom Boom Magyera

One of three original Sea Kittens who remain active in 2017, Boom Boom found his power stoke in fall 2017, and would now be even more annoyed by games on fenceless diamonds.

Boom Boom was a founding member of the Sea Kittens, playing third base and going 3-3 with a double in his debut June 9, 2010, the Cats’ second-ever game. After sitting out the 2011 summer season, Magyera returned to the squad in fall of that year and blasted his way to a career-high 0.714 batting average. A steady and versatile player, Magyera delights the Sea Kitten faithful diving, rather than sliding, into bases and is fifth on the Cat’s all-time games played list, although a nasty concussion sustained during one of those dives ended his 2018 season and he has since proclaimed “my diving days are over.”

One of four original Sea Kittens who remain active in 2019, Boom Boom found his power stoke (and nickname) in fall 2017. Ala Ryne Sandberg vs Cardinals 1984, Boom Boom blasted two dramatic late-inning, game-tying over-the-fence homers in a 15-14 win over Player’s August 28, 2017- the first two over-the-fence jobs of his career. Magyera also figured prominently in another dramatic Sea Kitten walk-off win June 30, 2010. With two out and the game tied at 14 in the bottom of the 6th, the pitcher for Packer Inn tried to intentionally walk Magyera, but Boom Boom was able to reach across the plate and flick a game-winning single to right- the first walk-off in Sea Kitten history- a moment he counts as his favorite Sea Kitten memory.

Sunshine telling Boom Boom to hit it “really really far,” further intoxicating him with the idea of the longball during the 2018 season

Bleeding Brewer blue, Magyera’s best softball/baseball memory was witnessing the 6-run inning in 2011 NLCS, Game 1, especially the 2-R bomb by Yuni.

Boom Boom lists playing on fields with no fences as the most annoying thing on the softball diamond.

Boom Boom had a memorable birthday game on one of those fenceless diamonds, going 2-3 with a double, walk, sac fly, 3 runs scored and 3 RBI in a 32-2 SK win to open the 2016 season. He missed the other May 18 game in Sea Kitten history- a 22-3 drubbing at the hands of Pedro’s to open the 2011 campaign.
