A Sea Kitten Original, Katherine “Sunshine” Curtis breathed L’Esprit des Chatons into the Sea Kittens.

With this note sent March 22, 2010, KC joined Sea Kittens without formal commitment, and has been with them ever since:

Humans,
I’m down with being a go-to subby. In fact, this may prove ideal given my fear of commitment. And, yes please, keep me in the loop on knocking and tossing opportunities.

As a “go-to sub” Sunshine ended up playing in seven of 10 Sea Kitten games that summer, created one of the few surviving personalized Sea Kittens- Roari- and was a mainstay over the next four summers. She made her debut in the Cats’ first-ever game May 19, 2010, collected her first hit June 23, and hit a bases-clearing three-run double July 28 in Packer Inn I– one of the most thrilling contests in Kitten history. She also brought her curly-haired boyfriend into the mix to sub a game, and got Man-Aaron Jossart hooked on the Sea Kitten experience. She hit a career-high 389/389/444 that first summer and drove in seven runs for the upstart Sea Kittens. She hit 370 and scored eight runs for the 2012 league champions, including a 3-5 performance in the finale.

KC missed significant playing time between 2014-2017, including the entire 2015 season- dealing with this crazy little thing called “life,” but never left the Cats.

KC credits her pre-game ritual of “Inspired Calisthenics with Jillian Michaels” for her continued success.

You don’t rope a goat. You tie them. And yes, it’s a good way to get free drinks in a Montana bar.

Known for her inquisitive, garrulous, and enthusiastic presence behind the plate, Curtis lists catcher as her favorite position. Perhaps it brings back memories of chatting with TJ Wasser during childhood t-ball games.

She loves pickles, bloopers, and Laura’s red shoes on the diamond, but does not love mosquitoes and droopy socks.
