TW: “Sea Kitten Softball”
Taking the field for only the second time since June 4 thanks to rain and smoke, Sea Kittens (1-1) played like a team that had really never done so before in a 21-5 drubbing at the hands of Hot Pitches (3-0) at Bowman Park July 23. Such things happen when you play long enough.
Kendra’s first-inning laser gave the Cats a very very brief 1-0 lead.
The Cats jumped out to an early 1-0 lead thanks to a two-out triple from All Day Kendra Haight, who lashed a hard line drive to left field that skipped to the fence as she raced to third. The lead proved short-lived once the teams switched places, as Hot Pitches took full advantage of the numerous extra opportunities the Kits’ defense afforded them. Things just… happened. If you’ve followed Sea Kittens for any length of time, you’ve seen it before, but it’s been a while since anything quite this epic.
“It looks like we’re wearing mittens,” observed one beleaguered Cat as they returned to the bench after another adventurous inning in the field.
Throw in a few Hot Pitches homers and pair it with generally ineffective Kitten hitting, and the rout was on. Sad meow!
